For those of you who are YouTube commentary watchers, you know that sitting in one area is frowned upon. You may also know that gameplays are snapshots from a gaming session. Most games, at least on the PS3, are so lag compensated that you would have to be a medium to be successful. I am sure that gaming on the Xbox is much better, but the game is incredibly hard to play on the PS3. This level of difficulty is causing the players on the PS3 to camp st a level greater than on Black Ops.
I have been in lobbies where players run to their favorite dark corners and set up shop. Any dark nook will do for these people. They have their silenced weapon, their dark corner, and the will to not move and have a low K/D. I can’t understand why people play the game like this, but in this game I can kind of understand. The inconsistent lag compensation, the faster damage registration and slower regeneration time make for a campy game.
If I were a player and I knew that I was at a disadvantage because of an ill-advised lag code, I guess I would camp as well. I currently walk around corners with my reticle up and ready to back out and shoot. I do this because I know that the enemy will see me before I see them. This is how Infinity Ward has decided to get people to play their game. There are people who use the Stalker perk and have their ADS up all the time. This is not how this game should be played. Infinity Ward needs to fix this game on PS3. This is a joke of a game! Stop rewarding campers and bad players.
I recently downloaded this new patch. From the hype on gaming message boards and YouTube commentators, this was supposed to be the patch to fix the lag. Well, I am hear to tell you that this poorly tested patch does nothing. I am still experiencing lag. I am not getting the frame rate jumps and stupid slow-down glitches, but the connection compensation is ridiculous. I have played about 30 games since the patch and in each game I am getting shot after emptying a clip into the chest and neck of the enemy. I can understand if I were on a three bar and the other guy was on a four bar, but these have been the opposite in EVERY situation.
I can’t, for the life of me, understand why a company would introduce something like lag compensation. If someone spends the money to have good internet speeds, that person should be rewarded with a smooth gaming experience. I should not have to pray that I don’t get host. I should not have a superior connection and get knifed after I have run by an enemy coming around a corner. Why would you leave the knife in the game anyway when the majority of the community hates the damn thing?
Infinity Ward, do you know the saddest part of this game? It is so horrible, that I have to go back to Black Ops to get a consistent connections. All your developers should feel disgusted with their skills. All your project managers should be fired and replaced. All your QA people should be wholesale whipped and kicked out of the offices. This game is still trash. I have to think that these things can be fixed, but I doubt they will be after seeing this worthless attempt at fixing the issues. I can’t stomach to play this game in it’s current state.
I can’t believe this game hasn’t been returned millions of times. All I hear is people raging about connections and phantom bullets. One kid spent an entire match ranting about how he got taken down after he was around a corner for two seconds. I have heard other guys complain about emptying a clip into someone only to get dropped instantly. All of these things are due to your ill-advised connection compensation. It is a complete failure and with it this game.
Can you kindly remove this trash compensation and let people deal with the connection disparity as everyone else does in other first person shooters? Your managers and developers aren’t up to the task of connection equality.
I started playing Call of Duty games when I purchased Black Ops. I was hounded and hounded by friends into getting it, and I finally relented. Well, I sucked horribly when I first started playing, as I expected, but I quickly started to get better. I had issues with Black Ops and I thought it was due to my internet connection. I thought that, maybe, my modem was faulty or I had a bad ethernet cord. After troubleshooting, I realized that it was just the game and the way Treyarch had implemented connection normalization.
I am by no means a video game programmer, but I am a programmer for a living. I build desktop and web applications, and I have been doing this for over a decade. From what I can tell, from the many hours of playing this game, Treyarch used some kind of balancing code to try and equal bad connections with good connections. Have you ever come around a corner, got shot, and looked at the kill-cam only to see that the other guy saw you before you saw him? Well, that is in part ping and in part this stupid system Treyarch, and apparently Infinity Ward, developed.
I remember back in the day, having a better ping meant that you were going to have a better experience. Well, in Black Ops, good connections didn’t matter because Treyarch was doing voodoo to try and make their game even. Flash forward to now, we have a game that is about the same, but has worse hit detection. Modern Warfare 3 (MW3), a game brought to us by Infinity Ward, is just garbage. I have tried to keep an open mind, but come on, this is ridiculous. It’s so bad that you have YouTube commentators saying that you should just accept it.

I don’t play a lot of free-for-all (FFA) What little amount of time I do play, I always end up coming out of it with a bad taste in my mouth. I have started wondering why I hate it so much, and I came to the following conclusion. This particular game mode is flawed in too many ways. Not only are you at the mercy of random payback spawns, but you have no tactical awareness.
There are tons of people who enjoy playing this style of game and more power to them, but this really sucks. It’s not that I can’t win games or get a decent K/D, it’s more that the game breeds campers. I can’t count the number of times that I ran into some guy laying down in a random spot waiting for a blind-side kill. Every time it makes me laugh and when you watch the game replay, the guy is always in the same place.
Another ridiculous feature of the game is the respawn system which promotes revenge (payback) kills. This is truly stupid, and when it comes to a campy game like this one it’s just annoying to deal with. I have all but quit the game style all together. If you are curious, I usually play domination, demolition, and capture the flag. I play team deathmatch (TDM) and FFA here and there for variety, but now I will be omitting the FFA for good. Good riddance.
I am relatively new to the First Person Shooter (FPS) genre, but I have gotten into it over the last few months. I was terrible when I began, but I am getting much better at it. Currently, I am averaging a 1.5 KD and I can get 7-8 kill streaks. I have finally started working on my sniping game, after watching some videos from Steve Schwindt and others on YouTube. This is where I started to dislike the changes made to the game.
Why would you change the hit markers of a sniper rifle in the game? The game already suffers from sub-par hit detection, and then you take the sniper rifle and change it into a nerf gun? If someone gets hit in the leg by a sniper rifle round, you can be sure that they will not go running off to safety. I have hit people dead in the chest, only to watch them duck for cover and run off. It seems that you only get one shot kills when you hit the person in the upper torso around their head. If this is the case, you need to revisit a marksman school or firing range.
There are some guys who have the gift of sniping and can get 49-0 games from just the sniper rifle, but they are few and far between. Most guys fire only to hit walls and the ground. Please Treyarch, if you are going to allow people to drop shoot and spray and pray in this game, you should allow a sniper to do the damage that the gun is rated to do. It’s only fair.
